2000 Currency Note Update: Option to exchange currency or deposit the amount in their bank accounts has been given in 19 offices of RBI.
2000 Rupee Note Exchange: If you still have Rs 2000 notes then this is important news for you. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a latest update regarding this. In which it has been told that since the time Rs 2000 notes were taken out of circulation, how much value of notes have been recovered till now. Along with this, how many notes are still deposited with the common people. RBI has said that about 97.62 percent of the notes worth Rs 2,000 (RS 2000 Currency Note) have been returned to the banks and now only Rs 8,470 crore notes are available with the people.
Let us tell you that on May 19, 2023, RBI had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation. After that these notes were asked to be deposited in banks or exchanged with notes of other denominations.
RBI said in a statement, “A total of Rs 3.56 lakh crore of Rs 2,000 notes were in circulation at the close of business on May 19, 2023. “The value of notes in circulation in this denomination has declined to Rs 8,470 crore at the close of business on February 29, 2024.”
Rs 2,000 notes to remain legal tender: RBI
In this way, a total of 97.62 percent of the notes in circulation in the denomination of Rs 2,000 (2000 Bank Note) have been returned. Along with this, RBI made it clear that Rs 2,000 notes will remain legal tender i.e. they will remain legal tender.
Still getting a chance to exchange 2000 notes
RBI continues to provide the facility of depositing or exchanging the Rs 2,000 note in its 19 offices across the country. Apart from this, people can send these Rs 2,000 notes (Rs 2000 Notes Deposit) from any post office to any RBI office through India Post. RBI had earlier said that people and institutions can exchange or deposit these notes in banks till September 30, 2023 (2000 Rupee Note Exchange and Deposit). Later the deadline was extended till October 7, 2023.
How will Rs 2000 notes be exchanged?
However, from October 8, 2023, people have been given the option to exchange currency at 19 RBI offices or deposit the amount in their bank accounts. This facility is available in RBI offices of Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
RBI had issued notes worth Rs 2,000 after Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes were withdrawn from circulation in November 2016 (Rs 2000 Notes Withdrawn).
