2000 Rupee Note Withdrawal: The 19 RBI offices that can accept/exchange banknotes are located at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
2000 Rupee Note Withdrawal: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a new update regarding the Rs 2000 note, which is very important for you to know about. RBI has told on Wednesday that 98.12 percent of the Rs 2000 notes have been deposited back in the bank so far. While the remaining notes worth Rs 6691 crore are still with the people.
The 2000 note was discontinued on 19 May
RBI had announced the withdrawal of the Rs 2000 note from circulation on 19 May 2023. Since then, the process of depositing these notes back in the bank is going on. RBI said in a statement that the total value of Rs 2000 bank notes in circulation stood at Rs 6691 crore at the close of business on 31 December 2024. This value was Rs 3.56 lakh crore on the day of RBI’s decision on 19 May 2023.
You can still exchange the 2000 rupee note
The Reserve Bank said, ‘A total of 98.12 percent of the 2000 rupee notes in circulation till May 19, 2023 have been returned. The facility to deposit or exchange these notes was available in all bank branches till October 7, 2023. However, this facility is still available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank. Apart from this, common people can send 2000 rupee notes through post from any post office in the country to any issue office of RBI to deposit them in their bank accounts.’
2 thousand rupee note was introduced in 2016
Despite being withdrawn from circulation, 2000 rupee notes remain legal tender. RBI introduced 2,000 rupee notes in November 2016 after the then prevalent 1,000 and 500 rupee bank notes were removed from circulation.
