2,000 Rupees notes holders: New update! 2000 notes can be changed from bank till the limit of 20000 rupees from this day.

2000 Rupees Notes: By 30 September 2023, 2000 rupee notes can be changed in banks. For this, a special window will start in banks.

2000 Currency Notes: The government has decided to withdraw the currency note of 2000 rupees. Announcing this, RBI said that under the Clean Note Policy, RBI has decided to withdraw Rs 2000 notes from circulation. 2000 rupees may be closed in circulation but 2000 rupees note will remain legally valid. RBI has said that till 30 September 2023, 2000 rupee notes can be changed in banks. Also, 2000 rupee notes can be exchanged with other denomination currency in banks and 19 regional offices of RBI.

Now the question arises that after this decision of RBI, those who already have currency notes of Rs 2000, what option do they have.

  1. Those who have bank notes of 2000 rupees, they can deposit these notes in the bank account or can change it through other notes by going to the bank branch.
  2. There will be no restrictions regarding exchange of Rs 2000 notes in banks. Banks will issue separate rules regarding this.
  3. From May 23, 2023, up to a limit of Rs 20,000, Rs 2,000 notes can be exchanged.
  4. Those who have bank notes of 2000 rupees can change the note of 2000 rupees till 30 September 2023. RBI has separately issued guidelines to banks in this regard.
  5. From May 23, 2023, up to a limit of Rs 20,000, Rs 2,000 can be exchanged in 19 regional offices of RBI.
  6. RBI has asked banks not to issue Rs 2000 notes immediately.
  7. RBI has appealed to the common people to take time till 30 September 2023 to exchange the Rs 2000 note or deposit it in the bank.

10.8 percent of 2000 rupee notes are present in circulation

RBI has informed that 89 percent currency notes of Rs 2000 were issued before March 2017. Whose life-span is of 4 to 5 years. On March 31, 2018, Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 6.73 lakh crore were in circulation, which has come down to only Rs 3.62 lakh crore on March 31, 2023. Which is only 37.3% of the peak value and only 10.8% of the total Rs 2000 notes in circulation. RBI says that bank notes of other denominations are sufficient to meet currency requirements.
