Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said on Saturday that 229 tax officers have died due to complications related to Kovid-19 during the service. Condoling the demise of these officers, he said that the country will always be grateful to them. Thakur said that 110 officials of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and 119 officials of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) were killed during the epidemic.
He said, “You are risking your life to serve the nation in this hour of crisis and the nation is grateful for your service.” Your service is leading to rapid evacuation of essential medical supplies, such as oxygen cylinders and other equipment at various ports. The minister said, “It is because of your service that the wheels of the government machinery are running efficiently.” Thakur said that the Finance Ministry is one of the most affected ministries during the epidemic.
“I also want to remember the 110 officers of CBIC and 119 officers of CBDT who lost their lives while on duty,” he said. My condolences to his family and loved ones. He also appealed to everyone to follow the Kovid-19 protocol and get vaccinated.
