The hard work of 16 years of hard work and trying to achieve success for India by beating shoulders on lifeless pitches was the biggest reward today.
In Indian cricket history, the day of February 8 and the time of 10 in the morning at 34 is very important and memorable. Not only Indian cricket, but this date and time was very important in world cricket for 6 years. Since then many times the date and time have changed for the world, but it is still very special for India. On this day, India (India) took the wicket of Hashan Tillakaratne on the first day of the Test match against Sri Lanka (Ahmedabad) in Ahmedabad. When the wicket was received, it was the bowler of the Indian team, but this wicket was for the whole country. This success was a symbol of India’s arrival at the top of the world.
The wicket was the biggest and most rewarding of many years of hard work and the successes achieved by banging his shoulders and rotating his wrists on lifeless pitches. This was the 432nd Test wicket of Kapil Dev. Hearing the names of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Dale Steyn and watching those records, Kapil’s 432nd wicket may have been a minor thing, but it was not common 27 years ago. It was the most special 27 years ago. Not only for India, but for the whole world.
Kapil’s highest jump in Motera Stadium
27 years ago, on 8 February 1994, at 10:34 in the morning at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, Kapil Dev had Hassan Tillakaratne caught out by Sanjay Manjrekar on the first day of the third Test against Sri Lanka. After catching Manjrekar’s catch, Kapil happily jumped the highest in the air and along with him the other 10 players of the team. Also, the fans present in the stadium jumped.
India had two successes in the very first hour of the match. First young leg spinner Anil Kumble LBW the opener Roshan Mahanama. Then after a few minutes, the moment to change history arrived. Kapil took the record of getting the most Test wickets by taking the wicket of Tillakaratne.
India won this match easily in just 4 days with a difference of one innings and 17 runs. The heroes of victory were spinners Venkatapathy Raju and Rajesh Chauhan. Raju took 11 wickets in both innings and Chauhan took 6 wickets. Captain Mohammad Azharuddin had scored a brilliant 152 runs. Kapil had taken only one wicket, but this wicket had become the biggest identity of this match.
It started ringing in Doordarshan – ‘It is a reality, not a dream…’
By the morning of the match, Kapil was on par with 431 wickets and everyone was confident that Kapil would do this feat. Therefore, preparations were also very good in Motera. As soon as Kapil took the 432nd wicket, 432 balloons were released from inside the stadium to celebrate this record. After taking the wicket, the spectators sitting in the stadium for one minute stood and played applause and greeted Kapil. Doordarshan stopped his broadcast and played a special song – “Not a reality or a dream, Kapil Dev Tawda is not the answer.”
Kapil, who started his Test career from Faisalabad against Pakistan on 16 October 1978, only played one more match against New Zealand after this success, in which he took 2 wickets. With this, Kapil finished his career with a world record of 434 wickets and playing 131 Test matches in a career of almost 16 years.
Broken record after 6 years
This world record of India’s greatest all-rounder was 6 years, one month and 20 days. On 28 March 2000, a great West Indian bowler Cortney Walsh set a new record against Zimbabwe by taking 435th wicket. Walsh finished the career with 519 wickets, which was broken by Shane Warne after a few years and finally Muthayar Muralitharan set a record of 800 Test wickets, which remains to this day.
