What is the step: Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Friday that under a significant reform, the limit of family pension payment has been increased from Rs 45 thousand to Rs 1.25 lakh per month. Jitendra Singh said that the Pension and Pensioners Welfare Department has issued an explanation in terms of the amount in which a child is entitled to withdraw two installments of a family pension if his or her mother dies.

He said that now the total amount of two such installments cannot exceed Rs 1.25 lakh. This is an increase of two and a half times over the previous limit.

Earlier directives had decided that in such cases the total amount of two family pensions would not exceed Rs 45,000 per month and Rs 27,000 per month, ie 50 per cent and 30 per cent respectively.

This rate was fixed in the context of the maximum salary of Rs 90,000 as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
