Preparations are being made for pay scale merger in the 8th Pay Commission, which proposes to merge pay scales from level 1 to 6. If the government implements the 2.86 fitment factor, the salary can increase from Rs 33,000 to Rs 65,000. This step will benefit central employees and pensioners with salary hike and career growth.
8th Pay Commission Salary Hike: In the 8th Pay Commission, the government is considering implementing the demand of the central employees’ organization JCM Staff Side. The organization had demanded the merger of pay scales from level 1 to 6 from the government. If the government implements this proposal, then the salary of the employees can increase significantly. Currently, level 1 employees get a salary of Rs 18,000 per month and level 2 employees get a salary of Rs 19,900 per month. If these levels are merged, then the salary of level 1 employees will increase. On applying the 2.86 fitment factor, their new basic salary can be Rs 51,480. Similarly, on combining level 3 and 4, the salary can reach Rs 72,930 and on combining level 5 and 6, the salary can reach Rs 1,01,244.

Major demand of JCM Staff Side
The National Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) Staff Side has sent its recommendations to the government on the Terms of Reference (ToR) regarding pay structure, allowances and pension reforms. The most important proposal among these is the merger of pay scales from Level 1 to 6, so that the salary structure can be simplified and career growth of employees can be promoted.
What is the salary structure now?
In the 7th Pay Commission, the salary has been divided into 18 levels (Level 1 to Level 18). In which the minimum salary of Level 1 is Rs 18,000 per month and the maximum salary of Level 18 is Rs 2,50,000 per month.
Staff Side’s proposal for pay scale merger
JCM Staff Side General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra has sent a proposal to the government, in which it has been recommended to merge the lower level pay scales. Under this proposal, it has been said to merge Level 1 with Level 2, Level 3 with Level 4 and Level 5 with Level 6. Its objective is to simplify the salary structure and improve the salary increase and career growth of the employees.
