8th pay commission Update: Many media reports claimed that the 8th pay commission may recommend increasing the fitment factor to 2.57 times. But let’s know what the former finance secretary of the country said about this.

Govt Employee Salary Hike: The government has recently announced the 8th Pay Commission. The commission will submit its report by the end of this year. Since its announcement, there have been discussions about salary hike among government employees. When the formation of a pay commission was discussed, it was said that this could increase the salary of employees by up to 186 percent. But according to recent reports, the salary of central government employees can increase by 10% to 30%.

Employees’ DA as of July 2024 is 53%

While talking about salary hike, former Finance Secretary of India Subhash Chandra Garg told in an interview that the fitment factor will be determined on the basis of basic salary and dearness allowance (DA) applicable on 1 January 2026. Let us tell you that the fitment factor is the multiplier by which the new salary is decided by multiplying the existing basic salary. Employees’ DA as of 1 July 2024 is 53%. By January 2026, two more DAs (January 2025 and July 2025) will be added to it. If we assume a 7% increase both the times, then by January 2026, DA can increase to around 60%.

10% to 30% increase in salary is possible

According to Subhash Chandra Garg, moving forward from the initial factor of 1.6, an increase of 10% to 30% in salary is possible. For a 20% increase, the fitment factor will be 1.92 and for a 30% increase, the fitment factor will be 2.08. Under the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was 2.57. After its implementation, the minimum basic salary increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000.

Will the fitment factor be 2.86?

Some reports are predicting the possibility of the fitment factor increasing to 2.86. This could have increased the minimum basic salary to Rs 51,480. However, experts believe that such a hike in salary is not possible. The recommendation of the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented from January 1, 2026. Because the tenure of the 7th Pay Commission is ending on December 31, 2025.

Pensioners will also get benefit

Central government pensioners will also benefit from this decision of the government and their pension will also increase from January 2026. Let us tell you that the new pay commission is implemented every ten years. The 6th Pay Commission was implemented on January 1, 2006 and the 7th Pay Commission on January 1, 2016. Similarly, the 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented from January 1, 2026.
