New cases of corona virus are continuously coming up in Mumbai and the condition has become so bad that only 23% beds are left in hospitals. Private hospitals have been asked to fulfill the demand for beds.
The situation of Mumbai Corona Update in Mumbai is becoming explosive. On Monday too, 5888 new cases of Corona were revealed and 12 people died. That is, till now the number of corona infected (Maharashtra Corona Update) has reached close to 4 lakhs. Whereas only 23% beds are left in Hospital Beds in Mumbai. Because of this, now private hospitals are being appealed to fulfill the demand of beds.
In view of these demands, the administration has ordered to take over 80% beds of private hospitals. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation has assured to increase the capacity of beds to 21 thousand. Out of these, 12 and a half thousand beds have been made available. There is also a lack of staff and doctors in hospitals. In such a situation, there is not going to be any special benefit by increasing the beds.
Mostly in areas of infection of posh and middle-class populations
The number of infected in the city has reached 15 percent of the population. Due to the high number of posh areas and middle class population among the infected, beds are being demanded from private hospitals. Patients with benign symptoms are also immediately entering the hospital because of fear. Out of 630 beds in ICU wards of private hospitals, only 182 beds are left.
Beds full, ICU full – Sending patients elsewhere!
The Municipal Corporation had last week assured to increase the capacity to 21 thousand beds. But so far only 12 thousand 742 beds have been available. There is no space left in Seven Hills Hospital with a capacity of 1 thousand beds. There are 1 thousand beds in the corona center of Bandra-Kurla Complex, out of which 940 beds are undergoing treatment for the infected. Only 9 beds are available in an ICU with 100 beds. Corona-infected patients are being treated in 1056 beds in Mulund’s 1200-capacity Corona Center. There are only 20 beds in the ICU which are fully filled. In such a situation, the need of the beds of the ICU is felt every day, and patients being sent to the ICU are being sent to other places.
Even if the beds are increased, where are the doctors and nurses?
The pressure to increase vaccination on the one hand and increasing number of patients on the other hand has increased difficulties. There is pressure on hospitals to increase their ability to admit more and more people. But due to lack of necessary staff and doctors, difficulties have increased. Beds have been made available in large corona centers, but until the number of doctors and nurses is not increased, it is of no use. 450 beds will be made available soon at the Corona Center in Mulund, at Bandra-Kurla Complex by Tuesday and 798 beds will be made available. The Mahapalika has given orders to increase 700 beds in Mumbai suburban hospitals. But all this is of no use until the availability of health workers and doctors is increased.
Difficulties increased due to demand from special hospitals
Difficulties are also coming up in many places because people want to get their treatment in a particular hospital only. On Monday, two thousand beds were raised in small nursing homes. In this way, four and a half thousand beds are available in private hospitals. But no one wants to come here. There has been a fear in people that their treatment will not be done properly.
There is no shortage of beds in the hospitals of the Municipal Corporation
There is no dearth of beds in the hospitals of the Mahapalika. That is why people are being urged that they should not insist on the demand of certain hospitals. Correct treatment facilities are available everywhere. At present, 15 thousand beds are available, which will be increased to 20 thousand by next week. To remove the shortcomings of employees and doctors, the administration has been instructed to take them on the basis of contract system. This has been said by Suresh Kakani, Additional Commissioner, Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
