On Wednesday, Pakistan’s Interior Affairs Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed announced that the government has decided to ban the radical Islamic Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). After this decision of the government, the protesters became more angry and came out on violent demonstrations.
TLP chief arrested on Monday
Senior police officer Ghulam Mohammad Dogar said that Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan chief Saad Rizvi was arrested on Monday. Rizvi had threatened to launch demonstrations if the government did not expel the French ambassador for publishing a picture of Prophet Mohammed. The police then arrested him and violence erupted on Monday.
Agreement was reached between Imran’s government and TLP
According to media reports, the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government signed an agreement with the TLP in November last year, agreeing to expel the French ambassador. The deal came at a time when the TLP had staged massive protests against cartoons last year. The protests came to a halt after the signing but TLP once again hit the road when the agreement was not implemented by February.
