Jandhan Account: Zero balance account will be opened in a pinch, know details

Which also gave the poor a chance to open a free account in the bank (Jandhan Account). In this started on 28 August 2014, more than 40 crore accounts have been opened so far. Of these, more than 34 crore accounts are active. But, what is this Jan Dhan Yojana and what is the benefit, will tell today…

If you cannot keep a minimum bank balance in your bank account (Jandhan Account) every month, then you should open a zero balance account. Account in which there is no need to keep minimum balance. This basic saving bank account can be opened for free under the government’s Jan Dhan Yojana. All government and private banks provide this facility. You can transfer money anywhere in the country through these accounts. The person who opens the Jandhan account gets a free of charge RuPay Debit ATM card. With this, money can be withdrawn or shopped easily. Free accidental insurance cover is available on RuPay card. On the card before 28 August 2018, this cover was 1 lakh rupees and accounts opened after August 2018 get an accidental insurance cover of up to 2 lakh rupees.

You will also get interest on the amount deposited. When the account remains operational for 6 months, then overdraft facility is available after 6 months. That is, from the bank, you will be able to take money on a zero balance even as a loan. Overdraft limit is Rs 10,000. Overdraft facility is available up to Rs 2,000 without any condition. Life cover up to Rs 30,000 is available in Jan Dhan account, which is received by the nominee on the death of the account holder.

Who can open an account in it

  • – Under the Jan Dhan Yojana, any citizen of the country can open his account in banks. Under this scheme, accounts of children younger than 10 years can also be opened.
  • – Jan Dhan account is opened for free and no minimum balance is required to be kept in it.
  • – Overdraft facility is available after 6 months. Overdraft limit is Rs 10,000.
  • – Overdraft facility up to Rs 2,000 without any condition.
  • – Rupees debit card is given to the person opening the Jan Dhan account, from which he can withdraw money from the account or make a purchase.
  • – Free casual insurance cover is also available on RuPay card for accounts opened after 28 August 2018.
  • – Accidental insurance cover up to 2 lakh rupees.

Life cover up to Rs. 30,000, which is available on fulfillment of the eligibility conditions on the death of the beneficiary.

  • – Money transfer facility is provided throughout the country.
  • – Money directly comes into the account of the benefits of government schemes.
  • – Interest is accrued on the amount deposited in the account.
  • – Free mobile banking facility is also provided with the account.
  • – It is easy to buy insurance, pension products through Jan Dhan account.

If there is a Jan Dhan account, then accounts will be opened for pension in schemes like PM Kisan and Shramayogi Maandhan.




If you want to take advantage of government schemes, then Jan Dhan is necessary. When the government gives money to the people under its schemes i.e. Direct Benefit Transfer, those money are credited to the Jan Dhan account. In the lockdown, around 20 crore women Jan Dhan account holders were transferred three rupees 500 rupees under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana. Under the Ujjwala scheme, money also comes in this account for gas connection. Money is also transferred to Jan Dhan for the insurance and pension schemes of the government. There are a total of 42 crore 5 lakh Jan Dhan accounts in the country, in which there is a balance of 14 thousand crores. A government identification card such as a voter card, PAN, Aadhaar card or driving license is required to open it.
