After the application for the verification process is approved, the profile gets a blue badge.
Twitter announced on Thursday that it is going to roll out its new verification application process and will also review public applications. Profile verification on Twitter is not entirely new as it has been running on the microblogging site for some time. However, the platform discontinued the original model in the year 2017, saying that it was considered an endorsement. Twitter attests a blue badge on verified profiles that differentiates them from other profiles. This new verification process will be available to all users in the coming days.
Eligibility for verification can be given to those profiles that meet one of the following 6 categories – government, company, brand, organization, news organization and journalist, entertainment, sports and gaming, activist, organizer and other influential people. Also, Twitter asks for a full account for this, which means that it has a profile name, profile photo and a confirmed email or phone number. For this, that account should be active for the last 6 months and follow the rules of Twitter. Information about ineligible accounts is given in the platform’s verification policy.
How to get verified on Twitter?
In the next few weeks, users will see the tab of the new verification application in the Account Settings tab. The California-based San Francisco company said it would be available to everyone slowly. This means that this option will not be visible in all profiles.
When the option starts appearing in your profile, then you have to tell whether you fall into the 6 eligible categories given or not. After that you will have to provide your identity details in which you will have to provide a government issued ID, official email address or a link to a website, in which a reference to a Twitter account has been given.
After submitting the application, a response will be received from Twitter via email. It can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Here you have to keep in mind that at one time a large number of people will be applying for the blue badge, which can prolong the wait.
If your application is approved then blue badge will start appearing in front of your profile. Otherwise, after Twitter’s decision, you can apply for it again after 30 days.
Although the list of categories given is quite limited. Twitter says that by the end of the year, it will add another category such as scientific, educational and religious leaders.
After the four-year-old model of verification, Twitter has once again started this process based on public opinion. In January, Twitter started implementing the policy to remove verification badges on accounts that were not meeting the new criteria for account verification. These accounts included inactive and incomplete accounts.
