JIO Airtel Vi customers will be able to convert to postpaid-prepaid through just one OTP, no need for mobile connection, SIM change or KYC

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is going to give a big relief to the mobile phone users. If you are a user of prepaid connection and want to convert to postpaid, this can be done easily with just one time password (OTP). For this, neither you need to change SIM card nor KYC.

Mobile phone users will soon be able to change their phone connection from postpaid to prepaid or from prepaid to postpaid through OTP based verification. According to a note from the Department of Telecommunications, customers will not need to change their SIM card for this.

Industry organization Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI, COAI) has proposed this arrangement to the Department of Telecommunications. The department has asked telecom operators to work on the proof of concept, ie proof of concept (PoC).

The DoT note states that the final decision on the change in connection through OTP will depend on the outcome of PoC. In a note issued on May 21, ADG of the Department of Telecommunications said that the telecom service providers will work on the POC as part of the process for converting prepaid connections to postpaid or postpaid. After the result of PoC, a decision will be taken in this regard.

COAI members include companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. On April 9, COAI had urged the Department of Telecommunications that customers should be allowed to know their customers anew, ie, they should be allowed to move from postpaid to prepaid and from prepaid to postpaid without KYC process. For this, one-time password i.e. OTP should be used.

It is said in the note that OTP-based verification is an acceptable rule in all fields today and most of the citizen-centric services are offered through this. According to the note, in the current era, contactless services should be encouraged for the convenience of the customers.
