New Delhi: The National Commission for Women in Lakhimpuri Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh has asked the state police to take immediate action against the accused in the incident in connection with the misbehavior with a woman during the nomination for the block chief election. According to the statement issued by the Commission, the Women’s Commission has taken cognizance of the video shared on social media in which two men are seen pulling a woman’s sari. The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, Rekha Sharma, wrote a letter to the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday and recommended strict action against the two men.
The commission said that this step was taken on its part after the video was tagged on Twitter. It is noteworthy that during the nomination of Kshetra Panchayat chief in Pasgwan development block of Lakhimpur Kheri district, a case of alleged indecency, pulling of sari and tearing of nomination papers with Samajwadi Party candidate has come to light. On Friday, a total of six police officers, including the Police Officer (CO), Pasgwan Police Station in-charge (SHO), outpost in-charge and three sub-inspectors, were suspended with immediate effect in connection with this incident.
