The upcoming maxi-scooter in India could be the BMW C 400 GT. For 2021, the 350 cc engine now gets a new ‘e-gas’ system and an updated engine management system as well.
BMW Motorrad India has teased a new scooter, describing it as the brand’s first maxi-scooter in India, which will be launched soon. While BMW Motorrad India has not revealed or announced the name of the scooter, we have reason to believe that the new maxi-scooter will be one of two medium-sized maxi-scooters from its global portfolio.
BMW Motorrad’s portfolio includes the BMW C 400 X and BMW C 400 GT, which were updated earlier this year. Both the scooters are based on the 350 cc platform and the maxi-scooter coming to India could be the BMW C 400 GT. For 2021, the 350 cc engine, (which has a single-cylinder and is liquid-cooled) now gets a new ‘e-gas’ system, which is essentially an updated throttle-by-wire system. It also gets an updated engine management system.

Apart from this, the exhaust system has been revamped and gets a new oxygen sensor with a new catalyst converter and a revised cylinder head which helps in making the scooter compliant with Euro V emission norms. The engine generates 33.5 bhp power at 7,500 rpm along with 35 Nm of peak torque at 5,750 rpm. The CVT gearbox has also been updated on both the scooters. Also the new clutch springs result in smoother power delivery along with faster throttle reaction.
The latest update on the BMW C 400 GT also includes a revised Automatic Stability Control (ASC) which is now more sensitive and helps in achieving more traction on low-traction surfaces. The top speed of both the BMW scooters is pegged at 139 kmph and according to BMW, part of the 2021 update will also include new brakes, which offer better feel and better bite. Once launched, we expect the BMW C400 GT to be a premium offering, priced above Rs.6 lakh (ex-showroom).
