New Delhi: Ahead of the NEET examination, the case of suicide of a medical student of Salem resonated in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Monday. After this incident, the state government took a big decision and passed a bill in the assembly to cancel the NEET exam.
AIADMK supported this bill of the government in the assembly, while the BJP protested against this bill and staged a walkout from the house. In this bill, the government has demanded from the President to give permanent exemption to the medical students of the state in NEET exam.
The main opposition AIADMK targeted the government while Chief Minister MK Stalin introduced a bill to not conduct NEET exam in the state and grant admission to medical courses on the basis of marks obtained in class 12.
Opposition raised the matter in the House
As soon as the proceedings of the House began, Leader of the Opposition K. Palaniswami raised the issue of Dhanush, a 19-year-old student who committed suicide in his home district of Salem on Sunday, and criticized the government. He said the DMK had promised to “cancele” NEET but it was not done and many students were not prepared for it. Some of Palaniswami’s statements were omitted from the record by Speaker M Appavu.
The MLAs of the opposition party came wearing a black badge. He walked out of the house under the leadership of Palaniswami. Dhanush, who lives in a village near Salem, committed suicide hours before appearing for the NEET exam on Sunday as he was afraid of failing in the exam.
Allegation started between the parties and the opposition
After this incident, accusations have started between All India AIADMK and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). The state government alleges that the central government is responsible for this.
Chief Minister Stalin said NEET was conducted for the first time in Tamil Nadu when Palaniswami was the chief minister and it was not conducted even when Jayalalithaa was the chief minister. He said all the students who committed suicide in recent years were during Palaniswami’s chief ministership.
Significantly, a 19-year-old teenager, a resident of a village in Salem district in Tamil Nadu, committed suicide on Sunday, hours before appearing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). He was about to appear in this exam for the third time.
CM said – the candidate was disappointed
Accusations started over Kishor’s death, with AIADMK blaming the DMK while the DMK targeted the Centre. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolence saying that the candidate Dhanush committed suicide as he was disappointed that he could not clear the examination despite appearing twice earlier.
While the main opposition AIADMK blamed the DMK regime for Kishor’s death, Stalin accused the Center of being “obstinate” on the matter and giving Tamil Nadu a “permanent exemption” from the purview of NEET. ‘ To give assurance of passing a bill in the Assembly on 13th September.
