There is good news for the employees. They will be provided maximum leave of 3 years. For this, the holiday scheme has been started by the state government. Rules and policies have also been prescribed for this.
Employees Leae Scheme: The state government has given great relief to its employees. Under this, rest leave scheme has been started for regular government employees. This will enable the employees to achieve their goals without losing their jobs. For this, an official notification was issued on August 14, for which changes have been made in the service rules.
Sabbatical leave scheme started
Rest leave scheme has been launched by the Government of Sikkim for its regular government employees. Regular employees will get its benefit. Under this scheme, employees will be given sabbatical leave for a period of at least 365 days once in their entire service career. Which can be extended up to a maximum of 1080 days. It has been clarified from the notification of the Department of Personnel.
Who will get the benefit of rest holiday scheme
The government’s sabbatical leave scheme will be for regular government employees. Govt will be able to get permission to take maximum leave with 50% basic pay up to 3 years if they are interested in pursuing their disadvantaged enterprise without worrying about losing government job.
Rules and regulations
An employee desirous of availing leave must have completed at least 6 months of service. An employee opting for sabbatical leave has to apply for leave in the contract. The notification states that the request of an employee to proceed on sabbatical leave shall be recommended by the concerned department head for the approval of the government through the department. After this further action will be completed.
The same notification clearly states that most of the temporary employees are appointed for a period of 2 years. Therefore, these employees will not be given the benefit of sabbatical leave beyond their term of service. An employee on sabbatical leave shall be paid the monthly pay immediately before proceeding on sabbatical leave or consolidated pay at the rate of 50% of the monthly pay.
What is sabbatical leave scheme
Explain that under the relaxation scheme brought by the state government, the government employee will be helped to acquire additional educational qualification including skill development. Apart from this, they will also get significant relief in discharging familial and social responsibilities including pursuing entrepreneurship, purpose, artistic and literary activities.
However, in this case, the Citizen Action Party has criticized the government on this plan, calling it a fallacy towards the need for regularization policy of government employees. CAP spokesperson says that relaxation scheme is an option for a government employee but before that option, the government needs to regularize the job of the employees. They should be given the benefit of regularization otherwise temporary workers get minimum wages. After the reduction in this too, they may have to face financial crisis.
