Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 13 and 14.
The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday on November 14 for educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Mayiladuthurai district.

Schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district will remain closed on Tuesday amid heavy rainfall forecast in the region, according to Villupuram District Collector C. Palani. Besides this, Cuddalore District Collector Arun Thamburaj has also declared a holiday on November 14 for educational institutions including professional colleges in Cuddalore.

Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai issued forecast for 13 and 14 November for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
“Light to moderate rain at many places with isolated thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places is likely on November 14.”

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,” it said. Heavy rain is also expected at isolated places in Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai districts and Karaikal region of Tamil Nadu.
Last week, most places in Tamil Nadu received moderate to heavy rainfall, resulting in severe waterlogging and closure of schools. Earlier, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development S Muthusamy along with district administration officials inspected the low-lying areas and took stock of the situation.
