2,000 Notes Holders: In the year 2016, the decision was taken to discontinue the notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500. After this decision, it was decided to discontinue the Rs 2000 note on May 2023. Today, in a statement by RBI it was said that Rs 2000 notes worth about Rs 9760 crore are still available in the public.
New Delhi. The Reserve Bank of India had announced on May 19, 2023 that Rs 2,000 notes will be out of circulation. For this, people were given time till 30 September 2023. Today RBI said that Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 9,760 crore are still present in the public. Whereas, in the banking system you have got back 97.26 percent.
The RBI said in its statement that the Rs 2,000 bank note was in circulation. On May 19, 2023, Rs 3.56 lakh crore of Rs 2,000 notes were in circulation. Now there is only Rs 9,760 crore in public. In this way, by May 19, 2023, 97.26 percent came back into the banking system.
The bank also said that “Rs 2,000 bank notes will continue to be legal tender.”

Rs 2,000 notes will be changed here
If you have not yet exchanged Rs 2,000 notes, you can deposit and/or exchange Rs 2,000 bank notes at 19 RBI offices. Apart from this, you can also send bank notes of Rs 2,000 to any issuing office of RBI through any post office for credit in the bank account.
Let us tell you that RBI had given time to exchange or deposit the notes till 30 September 2023. After this its deadline was extended till October 7. Both deposit and exchange services at bank branches were closed on 7 October. This means that from October 8, individuals can exchange or deposit the Rs 2,000 note at 19 RBI offices.
Meanwhile, queues are being seen during working hours at RBI offices to exchange/deposit Rs 2,000 notes. You can exchange the notes at RBI offices located in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
Bank notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 were demonetised in November 2016.
