Mumbai: Maharashtra Government has decided that under the advertisement issued for the recruitment of government jobs before November 2005, the option of old pension scheme will be given to the government employees who joined the government job on or after November 1, 2005. The state government has taken this big decision before the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections to be held in the state this year.
26000 employees will benefit
During the winter session of the Legislature held in Nagpur last month, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had assured the employees of giving the benefits of the old pension scheme before the budget. Vishwas Katkar, general secretary of Maharashtra State Employees Confederation, said that this decision will benefit 26000 employees of the state government.

Actually, these employees were appointed before November 2005, but the joining took place after November 2005. Before November 2005, about nine and a half lakh government employees were recruited in the state government, who are already getting the benefits of the old pension scheme. The statement issued after the cabinet meeting said that employees will have to declare within 6 months that they want to avail the benefits of the old pension scheme. The old pension scheme in the state was discontinued in 2005, under which employees received a pension equal to 50 percent of their last salary every month.
