2000 Rupee Note: In view of the inauguration program of Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Monday, January 22, the Reserve Bank of India has informed that due to government offices being closed for half the day, the facility of exchanging 2000 rupee notes will not be available. The Department of Personnel and Training has announced a half-day holiday in central government establishments on Monday in view of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha program. Due to this, public sector banks, rural banks, insurance companies and all financial institutions across the country will remain closed for half a day.

Rs 2000 notes will not be able to be exchanged on January 22

Issuing an official statement on the matter on Friday, the Reserve Bank of India has said that like the public sector banks, there will be a half-day holiday in 19 local offices of the Reserve Bank. In such a situation, customers will not be able to exchange Rs 2000 notes on this day. Along with this, the bank has also informed that this facility will start normally from January 23, 2024.

2000 rupee notes have gone out of circulation

The Reserve Bank had announced to remove Rs 2000 notes from circulation on 19 May 2023. At that time, Rs 3.56 lakh crore worth Rs 2000 notes were present in circulation, which has reduced to only Rs 9,330 crore by December 29, 2023. In such a situation, till the end of December, there are a total of 2.62 percent such Rs 2000 notes which are still not back in bank circulation.

Notes can be changed at 19 places

The Reserve Bank of India had given the facility to exchange Rs 2000 notes in banks and post offices till 8 October 2023. If any person has failed to exchange the notes during this period, he can exchange the notes by visiting the offices of the Reserve Bank located at 19 locations. The RBI offices where the facility to exchange notes is available include New Delhi, Patna, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bhopal, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Guwahati, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram and Nagpur.

There will be no transactions in government securities on 22 January

Maharashtra government has declared holiday on 22 January. The state government has declared a holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. After this decision, there will be no transactions in primary and secondary government securities, money markets and rupee interest rate derivatives on Monday. And from January 23, all types of transactions can be done normally.
