UPI in Srilanka and Mauritius: India’s Unified Payment Interface i.e. UPI will be launched in Sri Lanka and Mauritius on Monday 12 February. Apart from this, Rupay card will also be launched in Mauritius. During this time, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mauritius PM Pravind Jagunath will also be present. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will connect through video conferencing. It is noteworthy that UPI payment system will be accepted in France and it has started from the Eiffel Tower.
Citizens of Sri Lanka and Mauritius will be able to make UPI payments
With the launch of the UPI service, Indian citizens traveling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as Mauritian citizens traveling to India will be able to make payments through UPI. The expansion of RuPay card services will enable Mauritius banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism in Mauritius. Will facilitate the use of RuPay cards for settlements in both India and Mauritius. With this launch, people of all three countries will benefit from fast and seamless digital transaction experience. Digital connectivity between countries will increase.
UPI was launched in France
UPI was also launched in France before Republic Day. NPCI International Payments (NIPL) collaborated with French e-commerce and payments company Lyra. The Indian Embassy said in its statement that at present, Indian tourists are the second largest group among the international tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower. Tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris will now be able to book their visit to this iconic monument through India’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
NIPL CEO Ritesh Shukla said that their aim is to establish such partnerships and help provide convenient and secure cross-border payment solutions to consumers.
