Delhi Metro: The Central Government approved two new corridors in the fourth phase of Delhi Metro. The first line will be between Indralok to Indraprastha, while the second line will be between Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block.
New Metro Corridors: Finally, after a long wait, on Wednesday, just before the Lok Sabha elections, the people of Delhi got the gift of two new metro corridors. The Central Government approved the Indralok to Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block corridors of Phase 4. With this, the metro will reach densely populated colonies, which will benefit millions of people.
The construction of this 20 kilometer corridor will increase direct metro connectivity from West Delhi to New Delhi and many colonies of South Delhi. There will be a total of 18 stations here. It will cost a total of Rs 8399 crore to build it. Now only the corridor going from Narela-Rithala to Kundli is left to be approved.
In phase four, a total of 112 kilometers is to be constructed in six corridors. Three corridors, Majlis Park to Maujpur, Janakpuri West to RK Ashram and Delhi Aerocity to Tughlakabad, 65.20 km network have already been approved. About 44 percent of their construction work has also been completed. In this, a section of about three kilometers is likely to be started in July. The Central Government has approved 2 of the remaining three corridors.
The distance between Railway Station and LNJP Hospital will be reduced: Indraprastha to Indralok is a very important corridor. It is an extension line of the existing Green Line (Bahadurgarh to Indralok/Kirti Nagar). There will be 10 metro stations on this 12 kilometer corridor. With its construction, the distance from West Delhi to New Delhi areas like Delhi Gate, New Delhi Railway Station, LNJP Hospital will be reduced.
You will get benefit like this: At present, if someone wants to come from Peeragarhi to New Delhi Railway Station through Green Line, then he will have to come to Kirti Nagar first. From there you will have to come to Rajiv Chowk via Blue Line Metro. Then you will have to change metro and travel on Yellow Line (Gurugram to Samaypur Badli) to reach New Delhi. But, after the construction of Indralok to Indraprastha corridor, he can travel directly from Peeragarhi to New Delhi. This will save his time. Similarly, apart from shopping in Sadar Bazaar, connectivity with Sarai Rohilla Railway Station will also increase. He can also reach Delhi Secretariat.
Untouched areas of South Delhi will be connected: There is a large metro network in South Delhi. All the important lines of Delhi pass through some area of South Delhi. Even after this, many colonies of Andrews Ganj, GK 1, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block were not directly connected to the metro network. To reach any line of the metro, Yellow, Magenta or the future Silver Line, one had to travel a long distance. But, with the construction of this corridor, these areas will also be directly under the control of the metro network. This corridor will be an extension line of the present Violet Line (Kashmiri Gate to Faridabad Corridor). There will be a total of 8 metro stations at a distance of eight kilometers.
DMRC started the process
A senior official of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that the process of pre-bid activities and preparation of tender documents has been started to start the work on these two lines as soon as possible. Under this, necessary survey will be done to shift the pipelines and wiring etc. coming in the way of the metro line. This also includes the process of obtaining necessary approvals for construction from various agencies.
