The Income Tax Department has released offline forms (JSON facility) for ITR-1 and ITR-4 applicable for FY 2023-24 (Assessment Year 2024-25). These will be used to file ITR from April 1. JSON service is used while downloading or importing pre-filled details in offline format. It is also used while generating ITR filled offline.
Methods of filing ITR
The Income Tax Department allows filing of ITR through online or partial offline mode. While filing RTR online, necessary transaction, tax details and other information are already filled. The department collects these details from Form-16 and Form-26AS and enters them in RTR automatically. The taxpayer only has to verify them. After this, the process of e-verification has to be completed by submitting the form.
Jason medium for offline
The form is filled offline using Json service. For this you will have to download Jason Utility Form. After this the taxpayer will have to fill the income and other necessary details applicable for the financial year himself.
This facility is especially for those taxpayers whose income tax and transaction details are large and are not reflected in Form-26AS. For this, the taxpayer is given the facility to update the details himself. Once all the information is filled it is uploaded to the e-filing website.
Where to download
Jason utility can be downloaded from the Income Tax Department portal (https://eportal.incometax.gov.in). For this you will have to log in to the portal. Then you have to click on the option ‘File Income Tax Return’. Here a link to the json utility will appear. It can be downloaded by clicking on it.
