Railways Rules: Crores of people complete their journey by train every day. You too must have traveled by train. People often accompany them to the railway station to drop off friends or relatives traveling by train. The Railway Ministry has given important instructions to such people, by following which you can save losses worth thousands of rupees.

Railway Ministry made this update

The Railway Ministry has recently shared a post regarding this on social media. A day earlier on Friday, the Railway Ministry had written from its official handle on the social media platform Along with this, the ministry has also shared a picture of the platform ticket.

This is why platform tickets are necessary

In fact, many times it happens that when people go to the station to take the train to their friends or relatives, they go inside without taking the platform ticket. Doing this is wrong and if caught you may have to pay a fine. If you do not have a ticket to travel anywhere, then you cannot go to the platform. For this it is necessary to take platform ticket.

Measures to reduce congestion

Generally there is a lot of crowd at railway stations. Most of the people in the crowd are not passengers, but there are a good number of people dropping them at the station. To reduce the crowd due to this, Railways has made a system of platform tickets, which has been in practice for a long time. However, the rates of platform tickets have definitely increased with time.

You may have to pay this much fine

Currently, the rate of railway platform ticket in India is Rs 10. That means buying a platform ticket for one person will cost you only Rs 10. Platform ticket is valid for 2 hours. If you do not have a travel ticket from the concerned station and have not even taken a platform ticket, then if caught, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 250. If there are 4 people then the fine will increase to thousand rupees.

Platform ticket rates increased in 2015

The easy way to avoid this is to buy a platform ticket by spending just Rs 10. Till a few years ago, railway platform tickets were available for only Rs 5. The government doubled its rates in 2015 and now it is available for Rs 10. In the midst of Covid, the government had decided to increase platform ticket rates to Rs 50 to control crowding at stations.
