Railway’s 100-Day Agenda: Indian Railways has planned to implement big schemes in the new year. Railways has announced its 100-day agenda under which it will implement many schemes. This will completely change the face of the Railways and passengers will experience a comfortable journey. Railway train ticket refund scheme in 24 hours, Vande Bharat sleeper, launch of the last section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project, a super app for rail passengers and India’s first vertical lift railway bridge, these are some of the schemes being implemented by the Railways. The ministry will execute after the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Railways is going to work on many schemes in its 100-day agenda for the new government after the elections.
Exercise following PM Modi’s instructions
This exercise is taking place following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s instructions to prepare a 100-day plan for the new government. The Ministry is gearing up to implement such measures which will benefit the common passengers and make their journey comfortable. Indian Railways intends to launch a super app offering multiple services like ticketing and train tracking, introducing a 24-hour ticket refund scheme replacing the existing three-day process.
100 days agenda of railways
- Indian Railways aims to launch PM Rail Yatri Bima Yojana insurance scheme for passengers within the first 100 days.
- The government is to seek Cabinet approval for three economic corridors spanning 40,900 km, requiring an investment of Rs 11 lakh crore.
- There are plans to introduce an easy refund scheme for passengers in which passengers will get refund within 24 hours of ticket cancellation.
- Railways may launch a “super-app” in which passengers will be able to track their train status, book tickets and perform many railway-related tasks at one place.
- There are plans to operate trains from Jammu to Kashmir upon completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project. This part of the USBRL project also includes the Chenab Bridge which is the highest railway bridge in the world.
- India’s first vertical-lift bridge, Pamban Railway Bridge, is expected to be commissioned. It connects the rest of the country to Rameshwaram. Train services between Mandapam and Rameshwaram were stopped in December 2022 due to safety concerns over the rail bridge built in 1913.
- Railway officials are also working on introducing sleeper versions of Vande Bharat trains. The first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is being built by BEML in Bengaluru and is expected to be ready in six months’ time.
- Railways also plans to accelerate the Bullet Train project. The focus will be on operationalizing about 320 km of the 508 km long Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train section by April 2029.
