Driving License Rules: Government changed the rules of Driving License test, will be implemented from June 1

New Rules Driving License: The government has changed a major rule of driving license. New rules will come into effect from June 1. Its notification has also been issued.

The government has changed the rules for getting a driving license. Now you do not need to give driving test in Government Regional Transport Office (RTO). Instead, private institutions are now authorized to conduct tests and issue certificates. This new rule will come into effect from June 1, 2024. Its notification has also been issued.

New rules for private driving training centers

  • There should be at least 1 acre of land for a private driving training center. For 4 wheeler motor, additional 2 acres of land will be required at the driving centre.
  • The private driving training center should have access to appropriate testing facilities. Trainers must have at least a high school diploma. Apart from this, they should have at least 5 years of driving experience. Trainers should know the fundamentals of biometrics and information technology systems.

Training period

  • Light vehicle training must be completed over 4 weeks (minimum 29 hours). Training will have to be divided into at least two sections – theory and practical. In this, the theory section should be of 8 hours, while the practical should be of 21 hours.
  • For heavy motor vehicles, there will be 38 hours of training, which will include 8 hours of theory education and 31 hours of practical preparation. This training will be completed within 6 weeks. The objective of these rules is to ensure that private driving training centers maintain high standards for drivers of both light and heavy vehicles.

This much will be the fee (Driving License Fees)

The fees for different types of driving licenses are as follows –

  • Learner License: Rs 200
  • Learner License Renewal: Rs 200
  • International license: Rs 1000
  • Permanent license: Rs 200

How to apply for driver license

  • For this, first go to the portal (https://parivahan.gov.in).
  • Find the Driving License Apply option on the homepage and click on it.
  • Now the application form will open. You can print it if needed.
  • Fill all the necessary information correctly in the application form.
  • Upload the documents mentioned in the form.
  • Now fill again as per the given instructions.
  • You can apply both online or offline depending on your choice.
  • After completion of the application process, visit the RTO to submit the required documents and provide proof of your driving skills.

After completing all the steps, you will be issued a license.
