Schengen Visa Fees Hike Effective Today: Going to Europe for summer holidays will become expensive. Schengen visa fees have increased from today. Travelers going to Europe will now have to pay more visa fees than before. Schengen visa fees are given at the time of application. If your visa is rejected, then this fee is not refunded. Today, from June 11, 2024, the visa fee has increased by 12 percent. This increase in Schengen visa fees has come into effect worldwide. Due to this, it can be seen on the tourism industry.

According to the new structure of Schengen visa fees, adult applicants will have to pay €90 (earlier €80). Now children aged 6-12 years will have to pay €45 (earlier €40). Countries that do not cooperate with the EU’s efforts to bring back their citizens will face a huge increase, with fees reaching €135 or €180.

Currently, the value of one euro is approximately equal to Rs 90. The European Commission has increased the fees for short-term tourism visas worldwide by 12 percent. This increase has come into effect from today, Tuesday 11 June 2024.

The European Commission cites inflation and rising salaries of civil servants in the cities. The last time the Schengen visa charge was increased was in February 2020. This decision was taken after the EU visa fee review in December 2023. Schengen visa fees are increased every three years.

The scope of Schengen visa includes 29 European countries. Schengen tourism visa includes Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway (not officially a member of the Schengen Area but applies the rules), Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
