Seventh Pay Commission headed by former Chief Secretary K Sudhakar Rao in Karnataka has recommended a 27.5 per cent hike in the basic pay of government employees.
Bengaluru. The faces of 7 lakh employees of the Karnataka government have blossomed with joy. Because, the state cabinet has decided to implement the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission from August 1. Official sources said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah can announce this decision in the Assembly on Tuesday. This move will benefit more than seven lakh employees of the state government. The Seventh Pay Commission headed by former Chief Secretary K Sudhakar Rao has recommended a 27.5 percent increase in the basic salary of government employees.
This is estimated to put an additional burden of Rs 17,440.15 crore annually on the government treasury. The Siddaramaiah government was under pressure to take a decision regarding salary hike since the Karnataka State Government Employees Union announced its plan to go on an indefinite strike from August.
Increment twice within a year
The then Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had increased the salary of employees by 17 per cent on an interim basis in March 2023. The Siddaramaiah government can increase it by 10.5 per cent. Sources said that as per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, this would result in a total increase of 27.5 per cent on the basic salary.
What is 7th Pay Commission
The 7th Pay Commission is a panel set up by the Central Government to review and recommend changes in the salaries and allowances of employees. The 7th Pay Commission had recommended a 23.55% increase in the salaries and allowances of central government employees.
