It is expected that the Modi government, which has come to power for the third time, may announce the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission in the budget.

Previous Pay Commission
The previous, 7th Pay Commission was constituted by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 28 February 2014. Its recommendations came into effect from 1 January 2016. This will be the first time during the tenure of the current government that a new pay commission will be constituted. As per the usual ten-year interval, the 8th Central Pay Commission is proposed to start from 1 January 2026. However, the government has not yet made a formal announcement about it.
