8th Pay Commission: The Modi government at the Centre is going to present its full budget on 23 July, so every section has high expectations from this budget. Especially central employees, pensioners, servicemen, farmers and taxpayers have high hopes from this budget. Central employees have also sent a proposal to the central government regarding the 8th Pay Commission, old pension and 18 months’ DA arrears. It is expected that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may make a big announcement regarding the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission in the budget.
Employee union’s demand- Government should implement new pay commission
Through various forums, central employees have raised the demand for formation of 8th Pay Commission. Many employee committees have repeatedly urged the central government to form 8th Pay Commission to revise basic salary, allowances, pension and other benefits. General Secretary of Employees Federation SB Yadav in a letter to the Cabinet Secretary of Government of India has demanded formation of 8th Pay Commission, restoration of old pension scheme, release of 18 months’ dearness allowance and relief to employees and pensioners.
National Council of Joint Advisory Machinery has also raised such a demand. General Secretary C. Srikumar has also said that the demand for formation of 8th Pay Commission will be placed before the central government.
Recently, Indian Railway Technical Supervisor Association had also written a letter to the central government, in which information and many recommendations have been made regarding the formation of 8th Pay Commission.
If implemented, how much will the salary increase?
In fact, till now a new pay commission has been implemented every ten years. If the Modi government implements the 8th Pay Commission in 2025-26 as per the 10-year pattern, then it can see a 44.44% increase in salary. This will benefit about 48.62 lakh employees and 67.85 lakh pensioners. As soon as the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, the fitment factor will also increase from 2.57 to 3.68, due to which the minimum salary can reach 26000. With this, the possible increase in the salary of the employees can be from ₹ 20,000 to ₹ 25,000.
Earlier, the Seventh Pay Commission was constituted in the year 2014 by the former Prime Minister of the country Manmohan Singh, which came into force on 1 January 2016. In this, the fitment factor was increased by 2.57 times the base value and the basic salary was made Rs 18000. Now in the year 2026, 10 years will be completed since the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, in such a situation, the demand for a new pay commission has intensified, although till now no statement has come from the government regarding the pay commission.
Fitment factor can be 3.68 percent
Currently the fitment factor is 2.57 percent, if it is increased to 3.68, then there will be a big increase in salary. For example, if the basic salary of a central employee is Rs 18,000, then his salary excluding allowances will be Rs 18,000 X 2.57 = Rs 46,260. If it is 3.68, the salary will be Rs 95,680 (26000 X 3.68 = 95,680), that is, there can be a benefit of Rs 49,420 in the salary. Fitment factor is the formula that helps in the salary and Pay Matrix of employees under the 8th Pay Commission.
