7th Pay Commission News: There is pressure on the government from all sides in the matter of pending DA of central employees. In fact, this matter has been raised once again in the House. Two MPs of the House asked the central government whether the government is actively considering releasing the dearness allowance (DA) of 18 months of central employees and pensioners. At the same time, senior opposition leader Akhilesh Yadav has criticized the government for withholding the pending DA.
What did the MPs say
The MPs asked the government to explain the reason for not releasing the withheld dues when we are the third largest economy in the world. They also sought details of the representations received and action taken in this regard so far during 2024.
Government’s reply
Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary gave a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on this matter. In this reply, he said, “The decision to stop three installments of Dearness Allowance (DA) / Dearness Relief (DR) to Central Government employees / pensioners on 01.01.2020, 01.07.2020 and 01.01.2021 was taken in the context of Kovid, so that the pressure on government finances could be reduced.” On the question of representations received, the minister said that representations have been received from government employees associations including the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NCJCM) during 2024. Since there was a fiscal impact in 2020 due to the adverse financial impact of the pandemic and the welfare measures taken by the government, the arrears of DA / DR were not considered possible.
