Board Exams Update: Now board exams will be held twice in this state, cabinet has given approval

The move to conduct two SSLC board exams is to give a second chance to students who could not clear the board exams. Sangma said, “Starting 2025, MBOSE will conduct two SSLC board exams every year. The first exam will be held in February or early March and the second exam will be held in May.”

Board Exams Update: Under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), many changes are going to happen in the education system of India. One of the major changes is also regarding the board examination. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had informed about conducting board examinations twice a year. Now it is going to start. Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said on Saturday that the State School Education Board will conduct two class 10 examinations from next year.

Sangma told news agency PTI that the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) will conduct two Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (SSLC) examinations in the year 2025. He said that this proposal to amend the Meghalaya Board of School Education Regulations for Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination 2011 has been approved by the state cabinet on Friday.

Board exams will be held twice in February and May

The move to conduct two SSLC board exams is to give a second chance to students who could not clear the board exams. Sangma said, “From the beginning of 2025, MBOSE will conduct two SSLC board exams every year. The first exam will be held in February or early March and students who fail in all or some subjects in the second exam will get a chance to re-appear for the exam within one to two months, which will be held in May.” The Education Minister said the move is in line with the ongoing implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and is designed in the interest of students by reducing the time lost between attempts.

From the year 2026, you will have to pass in 6 subjects, not 5

The cabinet also approved the decision to remove the optional paper or ‘best of five papers’ from the 2026-2027 academic years, which means that all the students of 2026-2027 will have to pass in all six subjects in the board examination. The cabinet also approved the service rules for Meghalaya Public School Service Rules, Meghalaya Subordinate Water Resources Engineering Service Rules, 2024 and Farmers Empowerment Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

Let us tell you that two plans have been made for the board examinations to be held in the year 2025-26. The first plan includes board examinations twice a year, in which the students with better results will be considered final. At the same time, in the second plan, board examinations are to be conducted semester wise. That is, the students will be covered the entire syllabus in 6-6 months and there will be semester wise examination. Board exams will be held once in February and second time in April.
