If you have a mobile phone, then you must have faced the problem of spam and promotional calls and messages. Many times fraud is also carried out through such calls. Now the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has become strict in this matter. TRAI will implement a new rule in the country from September 1 to stop spam calls and messages.
The government has been working for quite some time to stop unwanted fake calls in the telecom sector. The company also introduced AI feature to put a stop on fake and spam calls but that did not help much. Now the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI has introduced a new rule which will come into effect from September 1, 2024 across the country.
From September 1, the whole country will get rid of fake link messages. Apart from this, any telemarketer will be blacklisted who has sent fake calls and messages to any telecom user. TRAI has held a meeting with telemarketers including telecom service providers Airtel, Jio, BSNL, Vi, MTNL on August 8, in which a guideline has been issued regarding marketing calls and messages.
TRAI gave strict instructions
- If an entity misuses its SIP/PRI lines to make spam calls, all telecom resources of the entity will be disconnected by its telecom service provider (TSP) and the entity will be blacklisted. This information will be shared by the telecom service provider (TSP) with all other TSPs who, in turn, will disconnect all telecom resources allocated to that entity and blacklist it for a period of up to two years. No new telecom resources will be allocated to it by any TSP during the period of blacklisting.
- From 1 September 2024, any SMS containing spam URLs/APK links not included in the whitelist will not be allowed to be delivered.
- Telecom service providers have been given time till 31 October 2024 to implement entity and telemarketer chain binding to detect such message flows.
