In fact, the Income Tax Department has asked people on social media platforms to be cautious about unknown calls and pop-up notifications claiming to be eligible for tax refund. The department said that taxpayers are advised to be cautious and verify any communication from the IT department through official channels. The department further said that do not respond to emails or visit websites asking for credit card numbers, bank account details or any other sensitive information. The Income Tax Department may contact taxpayers through the given email address.

At the same time, another post said, “A person lost Rs 1.5 lakh after clicking on a fake refund message. He was redirected to a fake app, due to which his phone was hacked and money was deducted from his account.
How to report Income Tax Refund Fraud
