Why is the festival of Janmashtami celebrated?
Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna. He is considered to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is worshipped all over India. It is said that Lord Krishna was born in a dungeon in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He was born at midnight, so according to tradition, Krishna Janmashtami Puja is performed in Nishita Kaal, which is around midnight. This year Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on 26th August.
