UPPCL Rules: New order of electricity department, old meters will be demolished and auctioned

Kesco has taken strict steps to stop electricity theft. The department will now break and auction old and faulty electricity meters. Every year thousands of faulty meters are collected in Kesco. Earlier these meters were broken and auctioned as junk. Two years ago, after the misuse of old meters came to light, it was decided to break and sell them.

UPPCL: The game of electricity theft by installing old meters that have been sold will now stop. KESCO will auction the old damaged meters after breaking them. For this, KESCO officials are going to buy a shedding machine with a budget of Rs 10 lakh. The electricity meter will turn into pieces as soon as it goes into the machine. KESCO has taken this step to stop the misuse of meters.

KESCO will auction old and removed electricity meters by breaking them. Thousands of damaged meters get collected in KESCO every year. Earlier these meters were opened and auctioned as junk, but after the case of misuse of old meters came to light two years ago, it has been decided to break them and sell them as junk. KESCO officials said that for the first time in the state, KESCO is going to buy a shedding machine as a pilot project.

Meters were caught at the junk dealer’s place two years ago

On April 8, 2022, one hundred and fifty old meters were found in a junk shop in Dayanand Vihar. Investigation revealed that the meters that were removed after installing smart prepaid meters in the areas of Circle One were sold to a scrap dealer. An FIR was lodged in Kalyanpur police station against scrap dealer Arun Katiyar and the house owner Rajni Devi. However, till date the police and KESCO officials have not been able to gather information about how the meters reached the scrap dealer.

Meters were changed after reading was stored

With the connivance of the meter reader and KESCO employees, the meter of the consumer whose higher meter reading was stored was replaced. For this, the meter records installed in the consumer’s house were made to disappear using old meters.
