Canada has put a limit on the number of international students for the next two years.
Immigration Minister Mark Miller has said that only 3,64,000 study permits will be approved in 2024. Last year 5,60,000 study permits were approved. Through the graduate route, international students get the opportunity to live and work in the UK for two years after obtaining a degree. This means that a graduate visa does not require a sponsor.
However, in January 2023, the British government abolished the rules for dependent visas for international students. This means that international students who were previously able to bring their family members to the UK can no longer do so. However, students pursuing PhD or post-doctoral studies were exempted from this rule. Due to visa restrictions, it was also stopped for international students to start working before completing their studies.
