IMD Alert: With the departure of monsoon in Delhi, the temperature is falling, due to which the nights in the capital have become colder than normal and the day temperature has also decreased. At the same time, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain in Delhi today, 19 September.
Weather Update: With the departure of monsoon, Delhiites have started feeling the cold with the chill in the air. After days of continuous rain, night temperatures have dropped across the city, which is in contrast to the usual heat of the season. Let us tell you that yesterday on Thursday night, the minimum temperature was recorded below 18 degrees Celsius at Delhi Ridge, which was 6 degrees Celsius below the seasonal norm. This is the first time in the current monsoon season that the minimum temperature in any part of Delhi has been recorded below 20 degrees Celsius and this is a sign of winter arriving before time.
Winter knocks at Delhi’s door
A drop in temperature has also been observed in other parts of Delhi. On September 18, the minimum temperature in Delhi’s Safdarjung was recorded at 21.1 degrees Celsius, which was 4 degrees Celsius below the average and the temperature in both Palam and Lodhi Road was recorded 3 degrees Celsius below normal. The drop in temperature is not limited to night time only but a significant decrease has also been recorded in daytime temperatures. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was recorded below 30 degrees Celsius in all the weather stations of Delhi.
At the same time, the lowest maximum temperature of 28.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in the Delhi Ridge area, which was exceptionally cold for this time of the year. The maximum temperature in most areas of Delhi was about 4 to 6 degrees Celsius below normal, which is quite different from the normal temperature. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), winter may knock in Delhi before time this year. The sudden fluctuations in Delhi’s temperature have provided relief from the normal humidity of monsoon, due to which Delhiites are able to enjoy the weather.
How will the weather be in Delhi this week
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Delhi today i.e. on 19 September. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the rain in Delhi may stop from 20 September. However, the movement of clouds will continue during this time. At the same time, the rain may start again in Delhi from 25 September. According to IMD, the maximum temperature of Delhi may remain between 31 to 35 degree Celsius this whole week and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 21 to 25 degree Celsius.
According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, the withdrawal of monsoon from Delhi is coming closer and usually the monsoon leaves Delhi by 25 September. There is a possibility of less rain for the next 4 days. At the same time, another system is coming soon in the Bay of Bengal and later moving towards inland areas, due to which rain may return to Delhi again around 25-26 September next week. This may extend the stay of monsoon beyond the scheduled time.
