Union Finance Ministry had said during the Parliament session in December last year that a proposal has been presented and in it a demand has been made to declare a holiday on every Saturday in all the banks of India.
Employees demanding 5 days work: No official comment has been made by the government on such news so far. But if the proposal of 5 days work in banks gets the green signal, then it will be a big gift for the employees. Last year in December 2023, bank unions had appealed to implement 5 Days Bank Working in 180 days. Now quoting the officials related to the matter, media reports are saying that the government can take a big decision on this soon. As of now, government and private banks remain working on the first and third Saturdays of the month.
Demand for hike in salary is also rising
Bank unions are not only demanding five days work from the government, but also appealing to increase the salary of bank employees by 17 percent. If the central government takes a decision on these demands, then more than 15 lakh employees working in this sector will get bumper benefit. It is worth noting that in the year 2015, the government had declared second and fourth Saturdays as bank holidays. Bank unions are asking to implement 5-day working in banks like LIC.
The government had given information about the proposal
The Union Finance Ministry had told during the Parliament session in December last year that a proposal has been presented and in this, a demand has been made to declare holiday on every Saturday in all the banks of India, which means that banks have been asked to work for only five days every week. Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad had said that this proposal has been presented by the IBA. However, he did not mention what steps the government is taking on this demand and neither did he talk about when it can be implemented in the near future.
Working hours of bank employees will increase
After bank employees get the gift of two days weekly off, their working hours can be increased. If the 5-day working system is implemented in banks, then the employees may have to work 40 minutes extra every day. That means their working time can be from 9:45 am to 5:30 pm.
