Sections 489A to 489E of the Indian Penal Code, counterfeit printing of notes or coins, circulation of fake notes or coins, refusal to accept real coins are crimes. Under these sections, there is a provision of imposing fine, imprisonment or both. If someone refuses to accept a coin from you, then you can take action against him with necessary evidence.

An FIR can be lodged against the person who refuses to accept coins (if the coin is in circulation). Action will be taken against him under the Indian Currency Act and sections of the IPC. A complaint can also be made to the Reserve Bank on this matter. After this… action can be taken against the shopkeeper or those who refuse to accept coins.
