Electricity meter: There is good news for the electricity consumers of UP. Consumers will get exemption from the cost of smart meter. Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Arvind Kumar, Member Sanjay Singh while announcing the new rates said that there will be no increase in electricity rates in Uttar Pradesh even in the fifth year and the rates will remain unchanged. Electricity companies had proposed an increase in electricity rates in lieu of the proposed gap of 11203 crores. The total ARR shown by the electricity companies of about one lakh 1784 crores has also been reduced drastically. 1944 crores has turned out to be surplus this year as well. The commission has also made it clear that no cost of smart meter installation will be put on the consumers. The Regulatory Commission has rejected the proposed fee of Rs 50 for connecting and disconnecting the connection on smart prepaid meter.

3 kilowatt consumers will also get 3-phase connection: Now 3 kilowatt consumers can also get 3-phase connection. Till now this facility was available only to those with 5 kilowatt connection. With this important decision, 3 kilowatt consumers will be able to get better electricity options. This year electricity rates have been determined on the basis of 10.67 percent line losses.

Reduction in green energy rate: The commission has reduced the green energy (green tariff) from 0.44 per unit to 0.36 per unit for the financial year 2023-24, which will promote the use of green energy and will be economical for consumers.

Council said, the decision is a victory for consumers

The State Electricity Consumer Council described the decision not to increase electricity rates as a victory for the consumers of the state. Council President and State Advisory Committee member Awadhesh Verma said that the new electricity rate issued by the Electricity Regulatory Commission will be studied. After this, as a part of the further strategy, by adding the surplus of Rs 33122 crore already released by the consumers and the current surplus, a reconsideration PIL will be filed before the commission and a struggle will be waged once again to reduce electricity rates. This struggle will continue until there is a reduction in electricity rates.
