According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains have been warned in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu for the next four days. Schools and colleges were about to reopen after the Dussehra holidays, but in view of the weather conditions, it has been decided to keep them closed again. In view of the weather conditions in the next 4 days, the governments are busy making arrangements for the safety of their citizens. In view of the safety of the people, the state governments have appealed to everyone to stay in their homes and avoid unnecessary travel.
Andhra Pradesh CM gave instructions regarding security arrangements
Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu interacted with collectors, ministers and officials through video conferencing and instructed them to send heavy rain alert messages to the mobile phones of citizens. At the same time, he has also given instructions to pay attention to the safety of the embankments of ponds and canals and to install necessary warning boards near rivers and canals. To avoid any kind of damage, the officials have been asked to set up a control room for quick action. The CM has also clearly said that if needed, schools and colleges will also be kept closed.
IT companies in Tamil Nadu advised to work from home
The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert in Tamil Nadu regarding heavy rains till October 16. Schools have been closed due to rain in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu. Along with this, the Chief Minister asked the officials to advise the employees of IT companies in Chennai, Tiruvanlur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts to work from home. IMD has warned that people should stay at home and not go to flood affected areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rains in Tamil Nadu in the next three days. Keeping this in mind, the administration has activated emergency services in all the districts and asked the NDRF, SDRF and police personnel to be ready for relief work.
Orange alert issued in Tamil Nadu
The IMD said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between October 12-16, with the heaviest rainfall likely on October 14-15. An orange alert has been issued for October 14-16.” The Meteorological Department said that a low pressure area formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal at 5:30 am on Monday. The system is expected to intensify into a well-marked low pressure area over the next two days and move northwestwards towards the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and southern Andhra Pradesh.
The government prepared for heavy rains
On Monday, the Chief Minister convened a meeting to review monsoon preparations. In the meeting, the Chennai Corporation Commissioner said that 990 pumps and 57 tractors equipped with pump sets are on standby. Apart from this, 36 motorboats, 46 metric tonnes of bleach powder, 25 metric tonnes of lime powder and phenol have been prepared for immediate use. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday surveyed the banks of the Narayanapuram lake and the Ambedkar Road canals in view of the forecast of heavy rains. He said, “Since various parts of Chennai are receiving heavy rains, as per the instructions of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, we have conducted a survey on the banks of the Narayanapuram lake between Pallikaranai and Kovilambakkam.”

Yellow alert issued in Puducherry
The Meteorological Department has also predicted light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Telangana for the next two to four days. A yellow alert has been issued here in view of the rain. Education Minister A Nammasivayam in Puducherry has given instructions to close all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal on October 15 due to the warning of heavy rain.
