He said in the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum that India followed the footsteps of the world in 4G and is moving with the world in 5G. It will also lead the world in 6G technology. The minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very clear that the government company will not use anyone else’s equipment. Scindia said that now we have a core and a radio access network, which is fully functional. We have a plan for one lakh sites by April-May next year. We have started 38,300 sites till yesterday. He said that we are going to start our own 4G network, which will move to 5G by June 2025. We will be the sixth country in the world to do so.

BSNL is using 4G technology developed by a coalition of state-owned C-DOT and domestic IT company TCS. Scindia said that India implemented the fastest 4G to 5G technology in the world with the installation of 4.5 lakh towers in 22 months and this service is available to 80 percent of the country’s population. For the launch of BSNL 5G services, existing sites will be slightly changed and their software will be upgraded.
Target to add so many customers by the year 2025
BSNL aims to have 25% customers by the end of the year 2025. BSNL announced on August 6 that it would introduce ‘Over-the-Air’ (OTA) and Universal SIM (USIM) platforms working on 4G and 5G. This will allow customers to choose their mobile number as well as change SIM without geographical restrictions. BSNL is a public sector company owned by the Government of India.
