Heavy rains will continue in Bengaluru till October 25, with the IMD warning of waterlogging in the city. The rains are being caused by a low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, which may turn into a depression by October 23.
Heavy Rains Alert: Monsoon is leaving the country and it has become a mild cold weather in North India. On one hand, while the air quality in Delhi-NCR area is getting worse day by day, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the southern states. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in many areas, due to which there is a possibility of fluctuations in temperature.
The IMD has predicted a change in the weather pattern across the country. North India including Delhi NCR will experience cold till October 25, but heat has returned again during the day. Today the maximum temperature is expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the capital is at 240 today, which falls in the “poor” category.
Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are on orange alert due to heavy rains today. Along with this, strong winds are expected to blow at a speed of 35-45 kilometers per hour. Weather alerts have also been issued for heavy rains in coastal areas including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
From October 21-25, IMD warnings for heavy rains are in place over Odisha, West Bengal and parts of Maharashtra, indicating continued rainy weather in the coming days.
Mumbai has been put on yellow alert with partly cloudy sky, possibility of rain and thundershowers as the temperature is likely to hover between 26-34 degrees Celsius. In Maharashtra, an orange alert has been issued for Dhule, Nashik and adjoining areas with possible thunderstorms, heavy rain and gusty winds with speed reaching up to 50 kmph.
