8th Pay Commission: Government can decide on 8th Pay Commission in 2025, how much will the salary increase after its implementation

In the new Pay Commission, the salary and pension of government employees are revised according to various economic parameters, especially inflation.

8th Pay Commission: After Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) and dearness allowance hike, central employees and pensioners can get another gift. According to media reports, in the new year 2025, the Modi government can take a big decision regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Since usually the central government constitutes a pay commission every 10 years to revise the salary of government employees.

The Seventh Pay Commission was constituted in February 2014, but its recommendations were implemented from 1 January 2016, which is going to end on 31 December 2025, on this basis the 8th Pay Commission is to be implemented in January 2026, in such a situation, the stir has intensified from now on. If the new pay commission is implemented, then there can be an increase of 44.44% in the salary.

Can a decision be taken on the New Pay Commission in 2025?

There is also a possibility that the central government may consider the 8th Pay Commission in Budget 2025, since after its formation, the commission takes some time to finalize its recommendations before submitting its report to the government.

Earlier, the 7th Pay Commission took more than 18 months to finalize its report and it was implemented in 2016. Talking about the 10-year pattern, the 8th Pay Commission is to be implemented in January 2026, so it should be considered from 2025 itself, since in the new pay commission, the salary and pension of government employees are revised according to various economic parameters, especially inflation.

Till now many employee organizations had sent proposals

It is worth noting that in the past months, many employee organizations have written several letters to the Center regarding the 8th Pay Commission. During the budget session, various employee organizations including the Employees Federation, National Council of Joint Advisory Machinery and Indian Railway Technical Supervisor Association had written a letter to the Central Government demanding the implementation of the Eighth Pay Commission.

Shiv Gopal Mishra, head of the All India Railway Employees Federation, has expressed hope that the 8th Pay Commission will recommend that the basic salary should be increased when the DA increases to more than 50%. The 7th Pay Commission had proposed this, later the Center did not approve it. Now this demand will also be placed before the Eighth Pay Commission. The Employees Forum has also presented a memorandum to Union Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, in which he has been requested to expedite the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission.

Recently, during the monsoon session, Rajya Sabha MPs Ramjilal Suman and Javed Ali Khan had raised questions about this. On this, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had said that at present there is no proposal before the Central Government for consideration for the 8th Finance Commission, only 2 representations have been received by the government, hence there is no thought regarding its formation.

What will be the effect on the fitment factor when the 8th Pay Commission is implemented?

The special thing is that as soon as the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, the fitment factor will also increase from 2.57 to 3.68. This can lead to a possible increase in the salary of employees from ₹ 20,000 to ₹ 25,000. Currently, the fitment factor is 2.57 times and the basic salary is Rs 18000. If the fitment factor is increased from 2.57 percent to 3.00 or 3.68 percent.

After the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission, the salary can be fixed at Rs 34,560 and the minimum pension at Rs 17,280. Earlier, the Central Government had last increased the fitment factor in 2016 and the 7th pay commission was also implemented from this year. This will benefit about 48.62 lakh employees and 67.85 lakh pensioners.
