Electricity Bill Rule: The smart meter postpaid connection of consumers who do not pay their bills will be converted to prepaid. After Lucknow, this system will be implemented in the whole of Uttar Pradesh. The department will convert the connection of those postpaid consumers who do not pay their electricity bills to prepaid.
Electricity Department Campaign: After Diwali, the electricity department will run a big campaign in Lucknow. The work of installing smart meters will begin. The smart meter postpaid connection of consumers who do not pay the bill will be converted into prepaid. After Lucknow, this system will be implemented in the entire Uttar Pradesh.
In the first phase, smart meters will be installed in Kanpur Road, Alambagh, Rajajipuram, Chowk, Thakurganj, Residency, Gomtinagar, Chinhat, Mahanagar Division. Under the Central Government’s RDSS (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme) scheme, smart meters are to be installed in the homes of all consumers. For installing these smart meters, smart meters will be installed in three phases. For those consumers who do not pay electricity bills, the department will convert the connection of those postpaid consumers to prepaid. Kanpur Road Division’s XEN Neeraj Garg said that smart meters can be converted from postpaid to prepaid.
Recharge will be done by ID
After the smart meter is installed in the houses, all the information of the concerned consumers will be fed. They will be able to see it themselves whenever they want. The meter will be completely sealed. Tampering will not be possible. Smart meter can also be recharged. Every consumer will have an online ID, through which the meter can be recharged. If the recharge is not done before the balance is exhausted, the power will be cut off immediately. There are many other features of prepaid electricity connection which will benefit the consumers. With the new features added in the smart meter, while the corporation will get relief from the outstanding electricity bills, the consumers will not have to bear the hassle of bills. There will be no dues on them either. For this, there will be no need to change the electricity meter.
What did the official say
MD of Madhyanchal Vidyut Nigam Bhavani Singh said that the smart meter has the feature of postpaid to prepaid connection. If the electricity bill is not paid, the postpaid connection can be converted to prepaid. For this, there will be no need to change the meter.
