Public Holiday: 20 November will be a public holiday in 6 states, schools and offices will remain closed

Public Holidays: In many states including Jharkhand and Maharashtra, November 20 has been declared a public holiday. All government offices including schools and colleges will remain closed on this day.

Public Holidays: In view of the elections on November 20 in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala and Uttarakhand, the state governments have declared public holidays. Schools, colleges, banks, post offices, and all other government offices will remain closed on this day, so that citizens can freely exercise their voting rights. Voting is to be held on 38 assembly seats in Jharkhand and 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. This decision of the state governments has been taken with the aim of encouraging people to actively participate in voting.

By-elections in these states

Apart from Jharkhand and Maharashtra, by-elections are being held on November 20 on 15 assembly seats including nine seats in Uttar Pradesh, four in Punjab, one each in Kerala and Uttarakhand and Nanded parliamentary seat in Maharashtra. There will be a public holiday in the state on this day, so that voters can easily exercise their franchise by going to their polling stations. At the same time, counting of votes will be done on November 23.

Voting on 38 seats in Jharkhand

Voting is going to be held on November 20 for the second phase in Jharkhand. According to the data of the Election Commission, a total of 528 candidates from 12 districts are in the fray in the second phase. A total of 1 crore 23 lakh 90 thousand 667 voters will exercise their franchise in this election.

Voting on 288 in Maharashtra

Voting will be held in a single phase on November 20 for 288 seats of Maharashtra. A total of 4,140 candidates are in the fray for 288 seats of the state. According to the Election Commission, the total number of candidates contesting the elections is 28 per cent more than the 3,239 candidates who contested the 2019 Assembly elections.
