Saharsa News Today: 2000 rupee notes can still be deposited or exchanged in banks and post offices. This facility is available in 19 issue offices of RBI from 19 October 2023. According to Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, the validity of the notes is still intact and 2000 rupee notes can be exchanged in all bank branches.
2000 Rupee Notes: MP Dinesh Chandra Yadav has clarified that Rs 2000 notes are still valid and can be exchanged. This information was given by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in response to a question in the Lok Sabha on 25 November 2024. The question was whether Rs 2000 notes can still be exchanged and whether RBI is still depositing them or not. Also, it was asked how many 2000 notes were deposited by RBI after the announcement of demonetization on 19 May 2023 and the deadline of 30 September / 1 October 2023.
Notes can be changed here and there
Pankaj Chaudhary said that till 7 October 2023, the facility of exchange and depositing Rs 2000 notes was available in all bank branches. From 19 May 2023, the facility of exchange of notes is available in 19 issue offices of RBI. From October 9, 2023 onwards, RBI issue offices are accepting Rs 2000 notes from people and entities for depositing in their bank accounts.
Post offices are also involved in this process. You can deposit your Rs 2000 notes in your bank account by sending them to any of the 19 issue offices of RBI through any post office. The minister clarified that Rs 2000 notes will remain legal tender.
In a reply to MP Dinesh Chandra Yadav, Pankaj Chaudhary said that RBI has received Rs 2000 notes from all sources, bank branches, issue offices and post offices. The MP has also shared a copy of the minister’s reply. This has made it clear to the people that Rs 2000 notes are still in circulation and the facility to exchange them continues.
Can still exchange Rs 2000
The government has repeatedly clarified that Rs 2000 notes are legal tender. People can exchange them in banks and RBI issue offices without any hassle. The facility of depositing notes through post office is also a big relief for the common people, especially those who cannot reach banks or RBI offices easily.
