Public Holiday: All schools, colleges and offices will remain closed from 11th to 12th December due to public holiday

In the official notice, the government said, “Wednesday, December 11, 2024 has been declared a public holiday for all government offices and educational institutions across the state in honor of the deceased. A three-day mourning period will be observed from December 10 to 12, during which all entertainment programs will be banned. The national flag will fly at half-mast on all state government buildings.”

‘Breathed his last at the age of 92’

Former Chief Minister SM Krishna died on 10 December at the age of 92. He breathed his last at the age of 92, his last rites will be held on Wednesday, 11 December in his hometown Mandya. He was known for his extensive political contributions. He will be awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, in 2023. Born on May 1, 1932 in Somanahalli in Mandya district, Krishna also served as the Governor of Maharashtra and the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

SM Krishna was once a big Congress leader in Karnataka and had a lot of influence in the state’s politics. He was the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004. Later he was also the Foreign Minister in the Congress government led by Manmohan Singh. In March 2017, he left the Congress and joined the BJP.
